How to change a binding
- 1
Open the current settings menu
Enter the game's settings and open Edit Controls. The name is confirmed by Paper Cult's released patch notes. - 2
Use the device you intend to play with
Move or press a button on the active keyboard, mouse or gamepad, then confirm that the prompts match the expected glyph set. - 3
Review every combat and Army Command action
Do not change only basic attacks. Check movement, dodge, Block or parry, Hero actions and Army Commands before starting a campaign. - 4
Test the change outside a boss attempt
Confirm movement, attacks, defense and commands in a low-risk state before relying on the new layout during Gilles or the Banshee.
Controls that matter first
The current official patch language confirms several action groups even though it does not assign universal buttons to them:
- Combos and attacks: version 0.11 added an icon for actions that deal increased Block damage;
- Block and parry: boss block-breaking attacks have been parryable since version 0.8;
- Army Commands: version 0.11 improved the command UI's visual feedback;
- Edit Controls: version 0.8 fixed a case where the menu could not bind an Army Command;
- Threat and tooltips: controller-specific tooltip issues were also fixed in version 0.8.
Read the Block, parry and armored-enemy guide after confirming the live binding for your defensive action.
If the controls lock or drift
Patch 0.10.57598 says Paper Cult fixed Drift Correction sometimes locking the controls. That does not prove every input issue has the same cause, but it gives a useful first check.
- confirm the version shown in-game;
- update to the current Steam build before troubleshooting an old bug;
- disconnect unused input devices and retest one device at a time;
- restore a changed binding only after recording which action failed;
- if the bug remains, report the device, connection type, Steam Input state, branch and version.
Does Tears of Metal have controller support?
Yes. Steam currently lists Full Controller Support and recommends a gamepad. The store also lists DualShock and DualSense support.
Does Tears of Metal show PlayStation buttons?
Paper Cult said PS4 and PS5 controllers have official in-game glyph support. The current Steam store independently lists DualShock and DualSense support, but individual Steam Input configurations can still affect device behavior.
Can I remap controls?
Yes. Official patch notes refer to the Edit Controls menu and fixes for binding an Army Command there.
What are the default keyboard controls?
Open Edit Controls in the current build. A complete first-party default table was not available in the sources checked, so this guide does not turn a mutable public-video setup into a universal default.
