Quick summary

  • Confirmed native platform: Windows PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
  • Xbox status: the Windows PC Game Preview is live, while the announced Series X|S version is still coming.

Is Tears of Metal available on PS5?

Tears of Metal is not currently listed as a PS5 game. We found no PlayStation Store product page, PlayStation Blog announcement or Paper Cult announcement confirming a PlayStation 5 version during our July 30 source check.

That wording matters. “Not announced” describes the evidence available now; it does not mean the developer has ruled out PS5 forever. Paper Cult could announce another platform later, but treating that possibility as a confirmed port would be speculation.

If you want to play today, the unambiguous native option is the Windows PC version. Steam lists Windows 10 as the operating system and shows the game as an Early Access release dated July 22, 2026.

Does Tears of Metal have a PS5 release date?

No official Tears of Metal PS5 release date exists. Dates copied from the PC launch or from old release-window announcements do not apply to PlayStation.

The game's July 22, 2026 date is specifically its Early Access launch on PC. Paper Cult's estimate of four to twelve months in Early Access is about the path toward version 1.0, not a promise that a PS5 edition will arrive at the end of that period. For the complete launch timeline, see our Tears of Metal release date guide.

Which Tears of Metal platforms are confirmed?

The current official pages confirm two PC storefronts and a future Xbox console release:

  • Steam on Windows PC: the game is live in Early Access. Steam lists single-player and online co-op, with Paper Cult describing parties of up to four players.
  • Microsoft's PC ecosystem: the official Xbox storefront labels the game “Game Preview.” On the regional page checked for this article, the “Play with” section lists PC and handheld, not Xbox consoles.
  • Xbox Series X|S: Xbox Wire officially announced a console version as “coming soon,” with Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere support. It did not provide a console release date.

Microsoft also hosts an Xbox Cloud Gaming product page, but the regular product page still lists only PC and handheld as playable devices. We therefore do not treat that cloud page alone as proof of universal live access. See our Tears of Metal Xbox status guide for the console, Game Pass, Play Anywhere and cloud breakdown.

Can I use a PS5 controller to play the PC version?

Yes, Paper Cult has said PS5 controller input is supported on PC. In an official developer reply on the Steam forum, the studio said most gamepads should work and that PS4, PS5 and Xbox controller glyphs are supported in the game.

That April 2025 reply confirms input and on-screen button prompts; it does not confirm a PlayStation build. Your exact PC setup can still affect whether a DualSense works over USB, Bluetooth or through Steam Input, so verify the current controller settings before troubleshooting.

The distinction is simple:

  • PS5 controller on a Windows PC: supported input for the PC build.
  • Tears of Metal installed natively on a PS5: not announced.

Could Tears of Metal come to PS5 later?

It could, but there is no first-party evidence strong enough to predict when or whether it will happen.

Tears of Metal is still in Early Access, and Paper Cult says it is using feedback to improve balance, performance, stability and content. A developer may focus on one native platform while a build changes quickly. That could explain the current PC-first release, but it is an inference—not a platform roadmap from Paper Cult.

A credible PS5 confirmation would include at least one of these:

  1. a Paper Cult announcement naming PlayStation 5;
  2. an official PlayStation Store product page;
  3. a PlayStation trailer or Blog post with platform branding;
  4. a release date repeated by both Paper Cult and PlayStation.

Until one appears, “PS5 release date TBA” is still too strong. The accurate status is PS5 version not announced.

How to follow a real PS5 announcement

Check first-party sources rather than search snippets that may recycle the PC date:

  • Paper Cult's official announcements on the Steam community hub;
  • the official Tears of Metal website linked from the store pages;
  • the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Blog;
  • Paper Cult's verified social or community channels.

We will update the date at the top of this article if the platform status changes. A new controller patch, crossplay note or Game Pass listing alone will not be treated as proof of a PS5 port.
